"COMPOSITION FOR EMPTY SPACE" by Aram Ruhi Ahangarani

COMPOSITION FOR EMPTY SPACE

show open 23 August - 25 October 2012
16 - 20 pm by appointment
RuhigRaum, Zurich

Each painting depicts a self-contained landscape or space often featuring an object of seemingly familiar form.

When looking at the composed works the viewer not only enters each individual space
but also experiences the space of the combined work,
which evokes stills from a motion picture or a slideshow.
In this way, the viewer's mind is activated to link not only the paintings
but also the space surrounding them.

The room is reflected in the lines, colour and structure of the paintings
and it is the artist's intention to re-define the room through these qualities
and those of the defined composition.

Chess has provided the biggest inspiration for the artist
who wonders at the process of decision
and the seemingly endless availability
of figure combinations on the chess board.

Aram Ruhi Ahangarani, born 1982 in Teheran, lives and works in Zurich since 1998.
